The Client

With over 25 years’ experience, our client are a recognised dining solutions company based in King’s Lynn, East Anglia. They specialise in the distribution of kitchenware, equipment and utensils, working with a range of sectors including hospitality, education and healthcare.

Occupying two premises in the King’s Lynn area, the client assigned RVA Surveyors to do an in-depth inspection of both properties consisting of a warehouse and commercial premise.

The Challenge

Though the inspection of the warehouse found a small reduction through a Check, it was during a forensic review of the commercial premise by RVA’s Audit Team that significant savings were made.

The commercial premise includes a designated showroom for recurring customers to place and purchase orders, while also giving potential customers an opportunity to view our client’s kitchenware products in person. Once the Surveyor conducted their inspection of the showroom and commercial space, they found no grounds to move forward with a Check Challenge Appeal case, so the review process was passed from the surveyor to the RVA Audit Team to conduct an in-depth forensic review.

The Solution

By looking into the client’s account, it was found that they were eligible for Retail, Hospitality and Leisure (RHL) Relief yet had not received any support before RVA’s forensic search.

To ensure this was applied, the Audit Team worked closely with the local authority providing evidence of the showroom, including photographs taken by the surveyor and collected documents to illustrate the client’s eligibility and if successful, our client could receive RHL Relief dating back to the 2019/2020 financial year.

The Outcome

Once the forensic review was complete, the RVA Audit Team were successful in applying RHL Relief dating back to the 2019, leading to a total in support of £34,036.

Not only does the success of the business rates and forensic reviews help our client in the current rating list but now ensures their business rates are correct as they enter the 2026 Revaluation.
