The Client
With almost 50 years of horticultural trade and working closely with local authorities, landscapers and designers, our client based in West Norfolk, is a renowned gardening centre growing over a million plats a year. They assigned RVA Surveyors to see if they could reduce their business rates liabilities.
The Challenge
To see if our client could save on their business rates, one of our expert surveyors visited the premises to collect evidence such as lease and rental agreements, images of the property and information of any similar properties within the area.
After the inspection had taken place, our surveyor found that there were no grounds to proceed with a Check Challenge Appeal case. However, during the surveyor’s inspection, the RVA Audit Team conducted an in-depth forensic review of the property to see if any additional savings could be made.
The Solution
During the forensic review, the Audit Team found that our client was eligible for Retail Relief (RR) dating back over three years to their occupation in the 2022/23 billing year. To ensure they would receive this backdated relief, the team contacted the local billing authority for the missing years relief on behalf of the client.
The Outcome
With the completion of both the inspection and forensic review, RVA Surveyors‘ Audit Team were successful in the application of Retail Relief on behalf of our client leading to £28,693 in backdated savings, offering considerable security for our client’s business rates liabilities.
