The Challenge
Looking to see if they could reduce their business rates liability, RVA Surveyors was assigned by the client to do a detailed inspection of the property to see if any reductions could be made to their business rates liabilities. Collecting evidence such as rental information, images of the property and information regarding similar properties within the area, our surveyor found that our client was valued the cheapest with the locality, meaning there were no grounds to proceed through Check Challenge Appeal.
However, what we did find was that though our client was receiving Retail Relief on their business rates from 2020/2021 and onwards, they were also eligible for this relief from the previous year of 2019/2020.
The Solution
After the inspection and findings of the missing years of retail relief, our specialist Audit Team applied for the backdated retail relief on behalf of the client and arranged with the local billing authority for the missing year(s) relief to be added to their account.
The Outcome
Our Audit Team were successful in applying on behalf of the client for the missing Retail Relief from 2019/2020, with the local authority rebating the client over £6,500 in backdated savings.
